First Week Experience In UKM (CHING XUE LI A193847)

Coming to the university for the first time was full of curiosity, wonderful, confusing, challenging and scary experience. Actually I have no words to explain or describe it… I would say I experienced mixed feelings.During orientation week in UKM, it was really tiring for me.

First Day

I arrived at UKM and asked to register at my college-Kolej Keris Mas. It was anxious and exciting to meet my roomamate! It was tiring as I needed to carry my things to my hostel and clean my room.

Around 7pm, we are asked to gathered at the college's hall for some briefing. 

Second Day

I needed to go to DECTAR for the opening ceremony of orientation week. A talk about all the facilities in UKM has been given to us so that I can know more about UKM. It was my first time going to DECTAR and I felt the place was spacious and seemed like a cinema. 

After the talk session, I joined the college activities. I was surprised that seniors prepared some slogans to represent our college and we need to practice these slogans for the competition of slogans from each college on the last day of orientation. I felt enthusiastic seeing all the people shouted the slogan with full energy. 

Third Day

I gathered with my coursemate for the faculty session. I was honored to visit the buildings of FEP. The lecture halls were full of aircon and the facilities were really excellent! The only inconvenient thing is that all the toilets are on the third floor but all the lecture halls are on the ground floor.

Fourth Day

I needed to go to Dewan Gemilang for the “UKM Cergas” session. We did some warm up before the aerobics. When the aerobics session was going up, I could not follow up as I was too far from the demonstrators and could not see what they had done. I felt really hot and tired when doing the exercise there.

After that, I was back to college for another activity. We are divided into a few domains. I was in the innovation domain. I had an excellent experience in this activity because I had a chance to innovate a new thing in a group. My group had innovated a pen container that can hang up to save the place.

At night, we gathered at Dewan Gemilang before going to stadium UKM. It was late and I was totally tired. We walked to stadium which is a stone throw away from Dewan Gemilang.

I was happy to see the parade’s show which was represented by all of the colleges. My college got third place. Although my college did not win the first prize, but the process was memorable.

Last Day

On the last day of orientation, I went to DECTAR for the closing ceremony. I dressed up with a blue baju kurung for this session. We had recitation of the pledge for the closing ceremony to become a formal UKM students.

At night, I was happy to see many traditional performances  I had a DECTAR war with my college. We gathered at DECTAR and shouted slogans to compete with other colleges. Although at the end, our college lost but the process was amusing! I walked back to college after the slogan competition because it was midnight and the bus services were stopped. The whole process was really fun but tired.
