First Week in UKM : Amirul Hakim Bin Khairi (A196114)

The first day in college or in a university is always very exciting, because of the new environment, new people and obviously the new educational system. I graduated from matriculation college, but during my time there we were always in our rooms, due to covid-19 we attend most of our classes online, and when we do meet in class, we covered our faces with face masks and face shields, it was just hard to communicate and build larger networks of friends, and there were also clusters of covid-19 inside the matriculation, so we occasionally had lockdowns. In overall my matriculation life was kind of bland, but I know my life in university will be different, and I sure hope so during the time. I do remember it just like yesterday, the day before moving to UKM, one of the best universities in Malaysia, I just couldn't sleep, the mixed feeling and thoughts were rushing in my mind while trying to sleep, couldn't contain the excitedness, the nervousness, and the thoughts of meeting new people where I would be making new friends.

It was my first day at the university, college so I decided to wear one of the most decent but still comfortable to wear dress from my wardrobe and head off to UKM with my family, they came to support and congratulate me as I was accepted here in UKM. As we were heading to the destination, we were stopped by a long traffic towards UKM, so many students were also coming to head to their colleges during that hour. As soon as I entered UKM, my eyes glowed as I saw how enormous UKM is and the thought of me getting lost inside while exploring is not so far off. After a couple of minutes, we arrived at my college, Kolej Aminuddin Baki (KAB), I was told to register first at the KAB's foyer to get my room keys and settle in. My family and I was quite surprised to how fast the registration went, it didn't even took a minute, I just gave my name and matriks number and bam, got my room keys. Then we went to search my room so I could finish unpacking my things and get some rest for the first slot of Minggu Apreasasi Watan (MAW) in the evening.

Heading to my room

Funny story is, while searching for my room, I mistakenly entered the wrong room number, I thought it was 211 but it was actually 217, the tip of the number 7 was faded out which leads to the confusion. The door was open, so I just pushed my way in to find what I thought to be my roommate and his parents. Our parents talked for a while, and Hafiz (the "roommate") and I were exchanging introductions. When I was starting to unpack my things, I was told that there was already someone here earlier, meaning the room had 2 persons already. Confused, I asked what is this room's number, and the rest, well you know what probably happened, we all laugh it off, and eventually I found my real room, it was actually just across his room, so we were basically neighbors. What a way to start college life, it was embarrassing but still a good story to tell, and if we look at the brighter side of the event, me and Hafiz are in good terms right now, we hang around quite often, every cloud has a silver lining is what I would like to say.

Now, I am going to share pictures and videos throughout the orientation week, I mean if I'm being honest, we all would like to see pictures and videos instead of reading am I right? So here we go!

Then at last, came the last day of MAW, probably the best day of the orientation's week. We get to enjoy various kinds of performance, plays and theater, to be honest I am not that fan of this kinds of things, but it was an entertaining watch, I mean, I almost fell asleep, but the show kept me awaken until the main last event where we will be holding a DECTAR War. A DECTAR War (Dewan Chancellor Tun Abdul Razak) is where all 12 colleges in UKM, as the name suggest will be having a war, but without weapons of course, a war with chantings and booing and making loud sounds, increasing team's spirits and lowering enemies' spirits to continue the war. Basically, the last college standing inside the DECTAR will win. Before all that, we had an opener to DECTAR War by UKM's Ultras. Let me just stop talking and let's watch how it goes.

DECTAR War

Well, KAB did return among the earliest in the DECTAR War, it was before 12 a.m where we left the council. Well, we had our reasons as our PCs explained, the main reason was, winning has no gift or medals gifted, it's war with nothing to gain or lose, other reasons include to having a bus ride to the college, if any colleges that stayed after 12 a.m, I am pretty sure they had to walk back to their college after the long and tiring day, where we spent most of our energy shouting and chanting, believe me when I say that, I literally can't speak, my voice is gone until the next day. The PCs also said to save our lion fangs for the SUKEM, where will be going all out to win and gain lots of medal, as a fun fact, KAB has already won SUKEM for the 9th streak and we are not going to lose our winning title this year to complete a decade worth of winning streak. That really did motivate us after leaving the DECTAR earlier than the other contestants in that particular day.

To sum it up, it was really an amazing experience, great memories created and an excellent way to start our life in university, I really enjoyed it to the fullest and was a little bit sad that it has ended, but all things do come to an end, right? But the end doesn't really mean that it's over, sometimes it's just an end to start a new beginning, and a new adventure, we just need to move on and keep moving forward.

That's all from me, my first week in UKM, hope you all enjoyed reading, and may we meet again next time. Peace.
